At a Glance
Boutique Stays
- — Choose hotels with in-room laundry or same-day pressing
Must-Try Tables
- — Pack a foldable tote for market shopping
Book Ahead
- — A durable carry-on
- — Broken-in leather sneakers
- — Compact travel steamer
European city breaks reward the light packer: cobblestones, narrow staircases and budget-airline cabin rules all punish an oversized suitcase. This is the list we have refined over dozens of trips.
The Bag
A hard-shell carry-on with smooth spinner wheels and a compression system will hold four to five days of clothing. Pair it with a structured leather or nylon tote as your personal item.
Comfortable Walking Shoes
Expect 20,000 steps a day. Bring two pairs maximum: a minimal white leather sneaker that works with tailoring, and a supportive loafer or ankle boot for evenings.
The Capsule Wardrobe
- 2 pairs of trousers in neutral tones
- 4 merino or cotton tops
- 1 lightweight knit
- 1 unstructured blazer or trench
- A silk scarf — sun cover, wrap and church-visit essential
Tech & Small Essentials
- Universal adapter with USB-C
- Slim power bank
- Packing cubes in two sizes
- Refillable travel bottles
